February 2011 Full Moon
Once again it’s Loony Poets Time.
What a wonderful evening! To sit out under the stars, watching the Full moon rise over the Kuranda Amphitheatre’s main stage whilst being entertained by the madcap poems, stories and performances from the Loony Poets and their guests.
This evening’s performing poets were David Jones [Quiffy} a published local poet, Morgan Hurst, Gwain Barker and special guests Rob Hart and Mozac. With the evenings theme being Valentines the poems reflected the many aspects of love, from the surreal to the downright sweaty, with much raucous laughter heard from the audience on numerous occasions. The set of the television screen had some power issues which were ingeniously sorted out by Di Russo and the lighting technicians so the show could proceed.
Music is always a part of the Loony Poets evening and as always the performances are wide and varied with artists such as Trish Molloy, an extraordinary folk singer playing accompanied by Zach and Theo. Beautiful songs were also provided by local musicians Dave Cooke, Leah Kelly from GudjuGudju, Debi Robinson and young guitarist Davy Simony The local audience was extremely pleased and appreciative when Davy announced that he and his friend Jayden Williams were amongst the Queensland winners and now has made it through to the second round of auditions for Australia’s Got Talent.
With artist Marc Steiner away Amber Gill stepped into the role of Loony artist and proceeded to paint a magnificent portrait of poet Morgan Hurst. Beautiful art was exhibited about the venue by internationally known local artists Ruth Mallock and David Stacey with additional pieces by Trevor Kyle. A diverse range of style and painting genres added to the ambience provided by the wonderful stage sets and performers costumes.
